About STC
The Southwest Trombone Conference is a 6-day intensive held annually at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. Trombone players may attend by audition for the Honors or Participant classes or join as an Auditor to take part in inspirational and motivating masterclasses, lectures, concerts, competitions, and performances.
Our Story
The Southwest Trombone Conference began its origins as the Santa Fe Trombone Summit in 2018 as a collaboration between the Santa Fe Opera trombone section and Dr. Christopher Buckholz, professor at the University of New Mexico. Looking to bring a high-level trombone conference to the southwestern United States, the founders began to craft a program that would focus on chamber music and as much masterclass playing for each participant as possible.
With only 5 Participants in our first year, we started very small. Since then, the STC has since grown each year as word about the event has spread making STC a competitive program hosting roughly 30 trombonists. Even as our founding SFO section is now spread apart throughout the country, they return annually to New Mexico to form the center of our Faculty and program to bring a highly-personal and advanced seminar to you as an attendee.
