About the Southwest Trombone Conference
The Southwest Trombone Conference began its origins as the Santa Fe Trombone Summit in 2018. The seminar began as a collaboration between the Santa Fe Opera trombone section at the time and Dr. Chris Buckholz, professor at the University of New Mexico. In 2017 after their first year working together as a section in the SFO, the idea was proposed by Mark Fisher to host a trombone seminar with an emphasis on chamber music and a select-sized group allowing for a more personal experience. Additionally, because of the make up of the founding group, the seminar would allow for Participants to see unique views amongst the Faculty from industry veterans to younger professionals beginning to establish themselves in their careers while still being active on the audition circuit who have now established themselves in positions in top orchestras across the United States.
With only 5 Participants in our first year, the STC has grown into a competitive program since its inception and has featured multiple world-premiere performances by its faculty. Since its inception, the STC has welcomed trombonists from around the world to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Now, we are excited to be moving the event from Santa Fe to Albuquerque to help us continue achieving our mission of providing the trombone community with a world-class trombone seminar located in the heart of the southwestern United States.
Moving to Albuquerque makes the Southwest Trombone Conference more convenient than ever to you. Located at the University of New Mexico, the former home of the Alessi Seminar, the conference is a mere 10 minute drive from the Albuquerque airport. UNM allows us to expand our offerings for all of our Participants by providing us with several large ensemble rehearsal spaces as well as plenty of practice rooms. It also allows us to welcome guest presenters, a large group of auditors, and exhibitors. Further, it provides us with the world-class acoustics of Keller Hall for all recitals and performances.
We can't wait to see you there!
